In this episode we interview Amy Baxter, M.D., Founder & CEO of PainCare Labs. Dr. Baxter first tells us about her career as a pediatric emergency medicine physician conducting pain care research and how that lead her to becoming a medical device inventor and entrepreneur. Dr. Baxter describes how she developed the prototype for Buzzy, a device that uses cooling and mechanical stimulation to numb needle pain in children with needle phobia. She tells the story of pitching Buzzy on Shark Tank and the benefits from that experience. Dr. Baxter outlines how she applied for and received multiple research grants to fund her research and device development, including multiple Small Business Innovation Research grants from the NIH. Lastly, Dr. Baxter describes how PainCare Labs evolved to develop VibraCool, a pain care device that uses mechanical stimulation for musculoskeletal pain and post-operative pain after orthopaedic procedures.

In this episode we interview Dr. Patrick Beeman, M.D., an OBGYN, Addiction Medicine Specialist, and the Co-Founder & CEO of medical and health podcast platforms InsideTheBoards and Ars Longa Media. Dr. Beeman tells how he went from being a philosophy major in undergrad to becoming an OBGYN and recently gaining additional specialization in Addiction Medicine all while keeping his passion for medical ethics. In this episode we interview Hari Trivedi, M.D., an Attending Radiologist and AI Researcher at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Trivedi describes how he splits his time between AI research and his clinical practice specializing in Emergency and Trauma Imaging. He describes the current main applications of AI in radiology and how the role of AI has continued to evolve into becoming a tool for aiding radiologists. He also describes the main ongoing research projects in the Healthcare Innovation and Translational Informatics Lab, where he is a Co-Director. Lastly, Dr. Trivedi gives an overview of some of the challenges of bringing AI technology into the healthcare system, including FDA approval, obtaining reimbursement, and adoption of AI applications by hospital systems.

In this episode we interview J. David Prologo, M.D., an Interventional Radiologist at Emory University with additional Board Certification in Obesity Medicine, and the Author of The Catching Point Transformation. Dr. Prologo discusses his interventional radiology practice and how the field of IR has evolved to retool previously developed procedures to be treat patients with obesity. He also describes the central themes of his book The Catching Point, consisting of evidence-based explanations for why many people fail to adhere to diets, why obesity is a multifactorial condition, available treatments for obesity, and how one can reach the "Catching Point" for changing their diet and lifestyle. Lastly, Dr. Prologo provides advice for how medical students and residents can maintain a healthy lifestyle while enduring the demanding schedule of a medical training.
