In this episode Maxwell Cooper, M.D. interviews Seth Bogner, serial entrepeneur and Chairman and CEO of HeartPoint Global, a company developing innovative, minimally-invasive medical devices for heart patients. Seth gives an overview of HeartPoint's device that is an endovascular alternative to surgical pulmonary banding to help reduce excessive pulmonary blood flow and decrease pressure. Specifically, HeartPoint's endovascular stent device is placed in the pulmonary artery and has a patented adjustable system allowing the device to adjust blood flow and pressure opening a wide array of indications including congenital heart defects and left heart failure. The device can be adjusted at anytime after implantation. Seth discusses how this device is an effective and low cost alternative to open surgical procedures that many patients in developing countries do not have access to. Seth and his global team at HeartPoint are working about to launch their first in-human trials with HeartPoint's device in both developing and developed countries. Seth gives an overview of gaining regulatory approval for a medical device on a global scale. Lastly, Seth discusses how HeartPoint's device was developed from the physician's perspective and made to be easily used allowing easy adoptability across the world.

Dr. Corriel discusses how she began her career as an internist practicing in New York and as she began building a blog and creating social media content became inspired to support other physicians producing content. She went on to start SoMeDocs which has grown into a platform that supports physicians producing articles, podcasts, social media content, video courses, and much more. SoMeDocs is also a resource for the general public to receive accurate health information from vetted experts. Dr. Corriel discusses the pros/cons of the different social media platforms and how SoMeDocs serves as an incubator for physicians looking to generate content and gain a wider reach.

In this episode Maxwell Cooper, MD interviews Alana Arnold, MD, MBA, a pediatric emergency medicine physician in Miami, FL and the Founder of Premier Pediatric Solutions, a consulting company that advises emergency rooms on how to triage and care for pediatric patients. Dr. Arnold sheds light on the fact that many pediatric patients are initially seen in adult emergency rooms that often do not have the proper training and equipment to properly treat children, often resulting in subpar outcomes for patients and unnecessary costs for hospitals. Dr. Arnold's company provides clinical simulations for the physicians and ER staff for common pediatric emergency cases, recommendations for pediatric equipment, and training for when and how to best transfer pediatric patients needing higher level care. Dr. Arnold also discusses the value she has found with her MBA and provides advice for networking.

Jani describes how a family member's illness due to a preventable disease inspired him to start Imaware to enable patients to take control of their health and enable early long-term monitoring of one's health. Jani gives an overview of how employers, hospitals and clinics, and patients are ordering home-based labs through Imaware's platform. The process involves patients receiving a home testing kit that includes device for collecting and storing a few drops of blood that is sent back for the selected lab tests. Jani discusses how Imaware from day 1 made the best efforts possible to ensure differentiation from Theranos and achieving the highest levels of transparency and compliance with regulatory and patient privacy protection standards, including the 3rd party lab testing companies they have partnered with.
