In this episode Maxwell Cooper, M.D. interviews Kathy Fields, M.D., a Dermatologist in private practice in San Francisco that is also a serial entrepreneur as a Co-Founder of Proactive and Rodan + Fields. Dr. Fields tells the story of how she and Co-Founder Dr. Katie Rodan developed Proactiv into a multi-billion dollar brand as early attendings using their own money and TV infomercials in the 1990s and celebrity endorsers in the 2000s. Dr. Fields also tells the listeners how Dr. Rodan and she went on to co-found a second company Rodan + Fields featuring a wide array of skin care products, also a multi-billion dollar business. Dr. Fields gives the listeners insights on how to build a team, market your product, and develop business acumen as a physician-entrepreneur. Dr. Fields still practices dermatology in private practice and discusses how she balances that with her entrepreneurial endeavors.
